Pichai, an Indian-American, received the Padma Bhushan in the trade and industry category for 2022. Pichai, who was born in Madurai, was one of the 17 recipients earlier this year.
In San Francisco on Friday, he was presented with the third-highest civilian honour bestowed by India, in the presence of his immediate family. 'I am really appreciative of the Indian government and people for this tremendous honour. As he accepted the award from Taranjit Singh Sandhu, India's ambassador to the US, Pichai, 50, said, 'It is tremendously significant to be honoured in this way by the country that shaped me.
I am a product of India. It travels with me everywhere. (Unlike this lovely award, which I shall keep in a safe place),' he declared. Pichai remarked, 'I was lucky to grow up in a family that valued education and knowledge, with parents who made significant sacrifices to ensure I had opportunity to pursue my interests. T V Nagendra Prasad, India's consul general in San Francisco, attended the occasion as well.
Pichai, according to Sandhu, is a symbol of the transformational potential of technology. He stated, 'He has been making praiseworthy efforts to make digital tools, and talents, accessible to across many segments of the society in various areas of the globe. Sandhu anticipated that Google will make the most of the digital transformation taking place in India, which he compared to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of technology that combines the 3Ss of speed, simplicity, and service.
Pichai remarked that it had been incredible to visit India often over the years to observe the quickening pace of technical advancement. He claimed that everything from speech technology to digital payments were products of Indian invention that benefited people all around the world.
As we collaborate to spread the benefits of technology to more people, he said, 'I look forward to sustaining the fantastic cooperation between Google and India.' According to Pichai, businesses are embracing digital transformation chances and more individuals than ever before, even those living in rural communities, have access to the internet. 'Digital India, Prime Minister Modi's vision, has undoubtedly been an accelerator for that progress, and I'm glad that Google continues to invest in India, engaging with governments, businesses, and communities across two transformative decades,' he said. 'Every new piece of technology that entered our life improved it. And that experience led me to Google and the opportunity to work on creating technology that enhances people's lives all across the world,' the man stated.
Pichai stated that he anticipates a great deal of opportunities. Pichai commented on India assuming the G20 chair, saying: 'It's an excellent opportunity to establish agreement on improving the global economy by advancing an open, connected, secure, and functional internet. We are dedicated to working toward that objective with you. On Thursday, India formally took over as G20 President.
Pichai stated, 'I am happy for the chance to conduct this job together and spread the advantages of technology to more people. With the help of a recent development in machine learning, Google this year added 24 new languages to its translation service. There are eight of them that are indigenous to India.
